VELLORE: VIT University Chancellor G. Viswanathan inaugurated a ‘Technical writing online learning centre’ of the Technical Writers Block (TWB), Bangalore, on the premises of JSR Career Consultants in Perumugai near here on Friday. Mr. Viswanathan said that technical writers served as a bridge between creators of technology and the actual users . He called upon youngsters to properly learn English, good knowledge of which was essential not only to become a technical writer but also for any job in this era of globalisation. Several Chinese students had joined the VIT also to learn English, he said.
One of the advantages of the erstwhile British rule was the fact that it gave English knowledge to Indians.
“Our youngsters should take advantage of the present day situation and acquire good English communication skills,” he said.
The opening of the technical writing online learning centre is an indicator of growth of Vellore as a hub of technical education.
The Central government has sanctioned Rs.1.5 crore for establishing a nanotechnology centre in the VIT. Mr. Viswanathan requested Uma Mobesh, proprietrix of JSR Career Consultants, to visit the VIT and give a lecture to students on technical writing. He congratulated Rakesh Shukla, founder and Chief Executive Officer of TWB, Bangalore, for having established the TWB, which paved the way for career opportunities to non-technical persons in technical writing.
Mr. Shukla said that a good knowledge of technical writing enables a person without any technical degree to get placed as a technical writer in any IT company.
Mr. Viswanathan and Mr. Shukla distributed compact discs on the technical writing online learning course to Thillainathan, an employee of the Vellore Town Cooperative Bank and Vidya Velan, a housewife.
V. Ramasubbu, General Manager of District Industries Centre, Vellore, and Y. Sankaran, branch manager of UCO Bank, Vellore, spoke.
Ms. Mobesh welcomed the gathering. B. Mobesh Murugan, proprietor, JSR Enterprises, Vellore, proposed vote of thanks.
Later talking to reporters, Mr. Shukla said that JSR Consultants was a partner of TWB in promoting the TWB courses in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Kancheepuram.
The TWB has developed an online method that centralises the training and evaluation of training at the head office in Bangalore, thus facilitating the adoption of uniform training standards in all its nine online training centres in India.
